Bringing Scotland to your car wherever you are
Everything you need to experience the sounds and senses of Scotland, from wherever you are in the world is right here in the box.
Hosted and curated by Anne Daly and Emma Chalmers from Mary Meanders Tours who instead of guiding you around historical locations, are now bringing Scotland to you in your car!
Listen to Anne tell you all about her Scottish heritage and spending her summer's with "Granny Island" on a traditional croft on The Isle of Harris.
Emma looks at the Celtic similarities between her homeland of Ireland and her adopted home Scotland.
Maestro Paul MacDonald will regale you with his inimitable and well-loved stories of some of Scotland’s heroes.
Gillebride MacMillian the renowned Gaelic singer will transport you to Scotland by sharing some of his favourite traditional songs. Gillebride’s first language is Gaelic and his love and passion for the language radiates through his work. You might already know him if you are a fan of the TV series Outlander, where Gillebride played Gwyllyn the Bard.
The smell of the Scottish fragrance car freshener will further enhance your sensory journey, helping you to visualise yourself driving through the Scottish Highlands.
When it’s time for a break in the drive, we have provided Scotland’s favourite snacks – shortbread and a Tunnocks chocolate wafer and of course Scottish tea bags for the perfect brew!
We have selected some road trip souvenirs for you too – a fridge magnet of course, an adorable Hairy Coo keyring and gorgeous lavender and rosemary soap.
We are thrilled to be ... bringing Scotland to your car, wherever you are.
Meet the team behind our gift box ideas.
For the past 7 years we (Emma & Anne) have been running Mary Meanders Tours, an award winning tour company based in Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. We offer tours around Scotland focusing on Outlander, Mary, Queen of Scots, Filming, and Ancestry Tours.
In 2020 the worldwide tourism industry was decimated due to Covid 19 and all tours were cancelled. We put on our creative hats and began offering virtual tours which were a huge success and we have had over 1000 people join them online!
While on a post lockdown road trip, we were discussing how their guests were desperately sad to be not able to visit Scotland and it was then the idea of a Scottish Road Trip in a box was born!
We have loved curating this box for you and do hope you will enjoy this authentic and immersive experience making you feel that little bit closer to Scotland.
Anne hails originally from Glasgow, but also boasts a proud Gaelic heritage, with her Mum being a native Gaelic speaker, and her MacLeod ancestors coming from the Isle of Harris, where she spent her childhood summers on a traditional croft. And, yes they did spin wool on an old-fashioned spinning wheel, and made Harris Tweed on a traditional loom, though thankfully the tradition of walking the cloth using fresh urine had long died out.
She is passionate about History, particularly the Stuarts and Mary Queen of Scots and loves historical novels – as a great introduction to many events and characters in history.
A Dublin lass, born and bred, she came to Scotland via San Francisco, having married a Scotsman. Now resident in the Linlithgow area since 2003 and a very proud mum to three Scottish “bairns”!
Scotland has firmly planted itself in Emma’s heart and she loves nothing more than getting on the open road finding new places to explore.
FROM SCOTLAND TO YOU
The Scottish Road Trip team handpack your gift boxes from our workshop in Linlithgow, Scotland. Linlithgow is the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. Situated 20 minutes by train from Edinburgh, we are ideally placed in the heart of Scotland. Most of the major Scottish filming locations you will have seen in the Outlaw King, Mary, Queen of Scots and Outlander are on our doorstep.
Mary Meanders Tours offer small group tours (max 14 people) and private tours, with larger groups by special request around Scotland. A growing part of our business is Ancestry tours, and what a fascinating area it is. It is such an honour for us to be involved in some very personal stories.
